A new briefquestionnaire, the BulimicInvestigatory Test,Edinburgh(BITE), forthe detectionanddescriptionof binge-eatingis described.Datafromtwo separatepopulations demonstratesatisfactoryreliabilityandvalidity.Thescalehasmeasuresof bothsymptoms andseverity. AllitemsintheDSM-lll definition ofbulimiandRussell's definition ofbulimia nervosaarecoveredbut the questionnaireis morethan just anoperationalisedchecklist of these diagnostic criteria.
